1917 1920 Spandau GEW98 K98 Mauser Double Date in 8mm
1917 1920 Spandau GEW98 K98 Mauser Double Date in 8mm. Overall this rifle is in low very good condition. It does not match. Mechanically it functions as it should. The bore is dark with minor frosting, strong lands and grooves. The stock is not original as it is from an Israeli Mauser. The bottom of the stock on the heel is marked with 7.62 in large numbers. There are very minor handling marks on the stock and handguard. There is moderate pitting on the front barrel band. There is minor finish loss on the receiver, barrel, trigger guard, floorplate, and buttplate. Unfortunately, the end of the barrel has been cut off about a quarter of an inch, and the top of the receiver has been drilled and tapped. The top of the receiver is marked with the Spandau crown marking, under that is the year 1917, which is the year the rifle was manufactured. The year 1920 is also marked on the top of the receiver. This shows that the rifle was possessed by the Weimar Republic after WW1. The left side of the receiver is marked with an Imperial eagle proof mark, along with the serial number, which is 4142. GEW 98 is also marked on the left side of the receiver. The barrel is matching to the receiver, and the serial number is marked on the left side of the barrel. The right side of the receiver is marked with Imperial German proof marks. The bolt is not matching to the receiver, however, at one point was matching to itself, but was force matched to another rifle. This would be great for reenactment.
